The classes during the year included a study of the Lord’s Prayer, the Sacraments, the Apostles’ Creed, the Ten Commandments, as well as some church history and a lesson on Christian stewardship. The service projects included helping at a homeless shelter one evening and raising funds for helping to alleviate world hunger by walking in the Chicago area CROP Walk. The Confirmation Co-op ended the school year with an overnight retreat at the beautiful Lutheran Outdoor Ministry Center in Oregon IL. Six students and four pastors gathered Friday night for an orientation, a night hike, a learning session, and snacks. We had a comfortable bunk house and a good meeting area. Saturday activities included breakfast and lunch, team building activities, a learning session about worship, a worship planning time for the students and a meaningful worship service conducted by the students. Following worship, the students enjoyed some fun time on the pond in the camp’s newly acquired paddle boats. We also had the interesting experience of observing a very large dead snapper turtle as well as the skeleton of a deer that fell victim to the highway traffic nearby.
