A Word From Pastor Joyce

Project T.A.C.K. is coming! You are probably wondering what this is all about. Well, at least I hope you are curious. The project comes from a special ministry that was founded on November 20, 2002, based on Acts 1:8.

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
The New Revised Standard Version, (Nashville, TN: Thomas Nelson Publishers) 1989.

Therefore, the ministry was called Acts1:8 Ministry. The vision of this ministry is to create a culture for Christians to care, share and connect people to Christ worldwide through Christian kindness.

You may have heard about “Random Acts of Christian Kindness.” When I served in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, I learned about an organization based in Green Bay Wisconsin called P.A.C.K. - - - Planned Acts of Christian Kindness. The object is to be intentional about Christian kindness. The object is to develop a plan and carry it out. Spontaneous acts of kindness are good. However, for the most part, they don’t happen often enough. There is a definite need for intentionality.

The Bible calls us through the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20) to share the Gospel. The Bible calls us to be witnesses for Jesus Christ (Acts 1:8). We are called to be disciples of Jesus. We are called to follow in his footsteps. We are called to show mercy, compassion and kindness just like Jesus - - - no strings attached. St. Paul talks about the fruit of the Spirit in Galatians chapter 5:22.

“ . . . the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. . . “

As baptized children of God, the power of the Holy Spirit is within you. It was God’s gift to you when you were baptized. You have the power to be a witness to the Gospel. Most of you probably think witnessing is rather scarey. Well, Acts1:8 Ministry intends to show God’s love in a practical way and, therefore, share the Gospel in a non-threatening way. Acts of Christian kindness will open the door to sharing the Gospel in the community surrounding Trinity, in your own neighborhood, among your family and friends.

Being a witness in the community surrounding Trinity is crucial to your beloved congregation surviving and thriving! Therefore, Project T.A.C.K. is a vital ministry that each and everyone of you should consider. Pray about it. Volunteer to be on the “team.” Be an intentional doer of kindness as a representative of Trinity Lutheran Church. Be a creator of ideas for kind deeds that we all can do. This is not one of those “if the opportunity arises” things. This is a “create the opportunity” thing.

Be a disciple of Christ that is intentional in showing God’s love in practical ways. Be open to talking about Trinity and what it offers when someone asks the question: “Why are you doing this?”

The first T.A.C.K. involves giving away bottles of water on a warm summer day/evening.

The second T.A.C.K. will hopefully be a product of YOUR creativity that we can all endorse and implement together.

Peace and joy,
Pastor Joyce
