Café is an electronic magazine for young women who want to build Community, participate in Advocacy, strengthen Faith, and strive toward Enlightenment (CAFE!). It incorporates a Lutheran perspective for women of Christian faith or simply for any woman who is interested in how faith can relate to the issues that women face today.

You can find this new e-zine on the internet at www.boldcafe.org. The address reflects the Women of the ELCA’s mission statement. Women of the ELCA, the women’s organization of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, creates and publishes every issue of Café.

In April, Café received a “Best in Class” Award of Excellence from the Associated Church Press in the Independent Web site or E-zine category. The judges said, “Café is clear, focused, and relevant to the concerns of young women who want to confront large questions with the help of a calm voice and some thoughts from Scripture.” Café received this same award in 2005. Then, the judges said Café “is a model of effective and exciting electronic journalism and demonstrates how competitive with print a well-designed, well-written e-zine can be.” The e-zine also won awards in both 2005 and 2006 from the Religion Communicators Council.

Although Café was developed to reach out to women between the ages 18-35, a group often falling between the youth and women’s organizations in the church, women of every age visit Café.

Café is made possible by grant support from Thrivent Financial for Lutherans and Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
